For the past 16 years, the intensely independent people
of the 39th District have sent Val Stevens to
represent them in Olympia because she stands for
responsible government, accountable to the citizens it
serves.
Senator Stevens introduced the first legislation in
Washington calling for a state budget web site where
citizens can see how the state spends its revenue and
what it gets for every dollar.
That vision is now a reality at
fiscal.wa.gov.
As the Republican leader of the Senate Human Services
and Corrections Committee, Senator Stevens has worked
tirelessly on behalf of Washington families.
Her legislation has made it
mandatory that children who must be removed from their
parents be placed with relatives if at all possible and
that siblings be kept together.
Senator Stevens has received the National Federation of
Independent Business’ Guardian of Small Business Award
and the Cornerstone Award from the Association of
Washington Business.
Her current passions are:
1.
To fix U.S. Highway 2 between Everett and Stevens Pass,
Washington’s most dangerous highway. Since 1999, 50
people have died on that 70-mile stretch of mostly
two-lane road.
2.
To split the Children’s Administration away from the
Department of Social and Health Services, a bureaucratic
behemoth that bogs down Child Protective Services,
resulting in too many Washington children being abused,
neglected, tortured and even killed.
For Senator Stevens, her constituents’ concerns become
her own. She works to keep Washington’s property taxes
low because high property taxes in her district are
threatening seniors’ ability to remain in their homes.
She also fights intrusive regulations that hurt small
business and she is dedicated to keeping Washington a
place where small businesses can thrive.
