Parlette
meets with LEAP students from North
Central Washington

OLYMPIA...Sen.
Linda Evans Parlette, R-Wenatchee, met with high
school students from Brewster, Bridgeport and
Manson's Lation Educational Achievement Project
on Friday at the state Capitol.
The young people from Brewster had lunch with
local lawmakers in the Senate Republican Caucus
meeting room.

The Latino Educational Achievement Project
(LEAP) was started in 1998 to improve Latino
students’ academic performance. The
group’s activities include hosting student
leadership forums and public education
workshops.
They also advocate at the state Legislature for
bill passage. To that end, LEAP takes part
in an annual legislative day to raise awareness
of issues that affect Latino students. For
the past several years, local participants have
had the chance to meet with their local
legislators while in Olympia.
“It’s such a treat to spend time with these
young people from North Central Washington,”
said Parlette. “Meeting the LEAP students
has become a yearly highlight of my legislative
session. This is a real chance for these
young adults to participate in the Legislative
process.”
