Morton meets with local citizens representing the American
Cancer Society

Feb. 4,
Sen. Bob Morton,
R-Kettle Falls, met with local citizens from the American Cancer Society
who traveled to Olympia in support of
Senate Bill 5626.

SB 5626 would add a 5-cent per cigarette tax ($1 per pack) on
top of the current state tax of $2.025 per pack. The new tax
would provide $20 million each year for programs aimed at
preventing tobacco use. The measure also allocates a percentage
of the money collected over the $20 million to: the state
general fund, water quality account, violence reduction and drug
enforcement account, education legacy trust account and health
services account |
