Sen. Mike Hewitt’s statement on Boeing exec’s retirement
August 31, 2009
Today Sen. Mike Hewitt, R-Walla Walla, issued this statement in
response to the announcement that Scott Carson, chief executive
officer of Boeing’s commercial airplane division, is retiring.
Hewitt is the state Senate Minority Leader and a member of Gov.
Gregoire’s Council on Aerospace.
“I wish Scott and his family the best, but also realize his
retirement may be another roadblock in our efforts to keep
Boeing jobs in Washington. Scott was a home-grown CEO with
strong ties to our state. Over the years he has been a real
advocate for keeping Boeing jobs in Washington. Even though the
new CEO is also from Washington, no one should count on that as
ensuring Boeing’s ongoing presence in our state.
“As I’ve said in the past and will continue to say in the days
and weeks to come: the Legislature and other elected
officials must look carefully – and quickly – at what we can do
to make Washington more competitive and attractive to employers,
from Boeing all the way to our smallest companies. Our citizens’
jobs depend on it.”
