Sen. Hewitt comments on governor not calling special
session
May 7, 2009
Today Senate Minority
Leader
Mike Hewitt, R-Walla Walla, issued
this statement on the news that Gov. Christine Gregoire will not
call the Legislature into a special session:
“Republicans have been saying for the past two
weeks that we didn’t need to come back to the Capitol for a
special session. I was so pleased today when the governor
contacted me to say she agreed with us and won’t be calling the
Legislature back to Olympia. It was a great decision.
“As I said last week,
there is simply no reason for the Legislature to come back to
consider measures that will cost taxpayers even more money –
especially at a cost of around twenty thousand dollars a day.
I’m especially pleased that
House Bill 1776, which would
have hurt the majority of school districts across our state, is
now no longer on the table. All the way around, the fact that we
won’t be holding a special session is very good news.”
