Schoesler continues on leadership team for Senate
Republicans November 20, 2008
OLYMPIA…Sen.
Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, was elected today by his
Senate Republican colleagues
to another term as their floor leader, the third-highest post on
the
caucus leadership team.
The vote keeps Schoesler in charge of coordinating the actions
Senate Republicans take when the Senate is in session.
“Everything we do while we’re out on the floor of the
Senate chamber – making motions, debating legislation, offering
amendments, taking votes – is governed by parliamentary procedures and
rules which are part of the checks and balances between the majority and
minority,” Schoesler said. “As floor leader I look at how we can best
work on behalf of our constituents, given those procedures and rules,
and make the calls accordingly. I very much appreciate the opportunity
to do that for another two years. “The people of our state
should expect some vigorous debates as the Senate takes up an enormous
challenge – balancing the new state operating budget in the face of a
revenue shortfall that yesterday crossed the 5 billion dollar mark. Part
of my job is to make sure
Senate
Republicans are ready to make our case
for a budget that protects taxpayers while serving the people who truly
need government’s help.”
Schoesler’s leadership position also keeps him serving on the powerful
Senate Rules Committee
and as spokesman for Senate Republicans on procedural matters. Schoesler was elected to the state Senate in 2004 from the 9th Legislative District after serving 12 years in the House of Representatives. He will begin his second term in January. - 30 -
