Delvin named to Senate Economic Development, Trade and Innovation Committee December 17, 2008 OLYMPIA…Richland
Sen. Jerome Delvin has been named a member of the Senate
Economic Development, Trade and Innovation Committee.
Formerly titled, the
Economic Development, Trade and Management
Committee, the committee considers a
wide range of issues relating to international trade, economic
development incentives and technical assistance for businesses. It also
considers Washington state tourism, strategic planning, quality
management and innovations in technology-driven economic development. “This year is a critical one for
economic development in Washington,” Delvin said. “We must be savvy and
strategic about building our state’s economy so that we’ll have a strong
base with which to move up and out of our economic difficulties.
I’m eager to get to work on solutions.”
As a member of the governor’s
Climate Advisory Team and an outspoken advocate of measured,
economy-friendly environmental policies, Delvin remains on the
Environment, Water and Energy Committee (formerly
Water, Environment and Telecommunications).
Doing so cost him the position of ranking Republican on the Senate
Higher Education Committee, because the energy and higher education
committees have identical meeting schedules. He is also a member of the
Senate
Transportation Committee.
"With a $6 billion deficit
staring us in the face, Washington faces some huge challenges,” Delvin
said. “We’ve got to roll up our sleeves and make some tough decisions.
Our future depends on it.” He assumes his duties immediately for the 2009 legislative session, which begins Jan. 12. - 30 - Sen. Delvin represents the 8th
Legislative District, which includesRichland, Kennewick, Benton City, and Prosser. |
