Sen. Mike Carrell,
R-Lakewood, has been elected to the position of Deputy
Leader of the Washington State Senate Republican Caucus.
“I’m honored to be chosen by my fellow
Senate Republicans to serve as deputy leader for the 2009
and 2010 legislative sessions,” Carrell said.
“We’re going to be facing a lot
of challenges, both as a caucus and as a state, and in this
leadership position I can ensure the interests of my
constituents are represented in the overall goals of our
caucus.”
The Deputy Republican Leader
assists the Republican Leader in developing legislative
goals, policies, issues and priorities, and in communicating
Republican views before groups and with the media.
Leaders of the Senate Republican Caucus
are responsible for providing direction and executing
policies of the caucus to best serve the people of the
state, members’ constituents and fellow caucus members.
“As Deputy Republican Leader, I pledge to remain a positive
influence in the Senate,” Carrell said, “and I will continue
to work with members of both parties to find common ground
we can all stand on as we shoulder the responsibilities of
addressing the critical issues important to Washington state
residents.”
Carrell assumes the responsibilities of Deputy
Republican Leader immediately.

represents the 28th Legislative District, which includes
Lakewood; Steilacoom; University Place; DuPont; Fircrest;
Anderson,
Ketron and McNeil islands; and parts of Tacoma,
Fort Lewis, and McChord Air Force Base.
