2005 OLYMPIA…State
Sen. Jim Honeyford, R-Sunnyside, will honor the 100th birthday of
the city of Mabton today in a resolution before the Washington State
Senate.
Honeyford, whose 15th
Legislative District includes Mabton, will schedule a time to present the
resolution to the city leaders of Mabton and to honor its residents after
the 2005 legislative session adjourns later this spring.
“Mabton has much to be proud of,”
Honeyford said. “As the hometown of Major League Baseball’s Mel Stottlemyre—as
well as that of Sen. Irv Newhouse— Mabton has a long history of producing
stellar citizens.”
The resolution honors Mabton for its
incorporation as a railroad town where President Teddy Roosevelt once
stopped and spoke in 1911. It also recognizes Yakima Chief Ranches— one of
the largest hop operations in the world.
“I’m very proud to honor Mabton for its
proud history in our state,” Honeyford said. “I look forward to presenting
this resolution in person later this year.”
