OLYMPIA... Sen. Jerome Delvin, R-Richland,
supported a move today to delay ratification of the election for governor
until questionable errors surrounding the election are investigated.
During a joint session of the House and Senate in Olympia,
a motion was made to delay the ratification of the election for two weeks.
That motion was ultimately defeated.
“I’m disappointed in today’s vote,” Delvin said. “I feel
it’s important to hold off for two weeks. Let’s take the time to find out
exactly what happened during this election that resulted in many more votes
than voters in certain counties.”
King County, The Seattle Times reported, recently
discovered additional errors resulting in an estimated 1,800 votes that
can’t be matched to voters. Delvin says it’s prudent to wait for these
issues to be investigated before rushing to ratify the election results.
“We’re not accusing anyone of wrongdoing,” Delvin said.
“The fact is, though, people are human, mistakes were likely made, and we
need to make sure everyone who was eligible to vote and made every effort to
do so have their vote counted.”
