Carrell sworn in, outlines legislative priorities
January 11, 2005

OLYMPIA…State Sen. Mike Carrell, R-Lakewood, was sworn in this week to his first full term as state senator representing the 28th Legislative District.

Carrell, a former five-term member of the House of Representatives, was appointed to the Senate last July to replace veteran legislator Shirley Winsley, R-Fircrest, when she accepted an appointment by the governor to the state Tax Appeals Board.

“It continues to be an honor to represent the people of the 28th Legislative District,” Carrell said.  “I take the job very seriously and am honored to once again be entrusted with their voice in Olympia.”

Carrell will serve on the Judiciary; Early Learning, K-12 and Higher Education; and Human Services and Corrections committees.

“My priorities continue to be the constituency I represent, and the committees on which I serve are a great match for that representation,” Carrell added.  “I look forward to continuing my efforts to keep our fine doctors here in Washington, protect residents from prematurely released violent offenders, and ensure our schoolchildren become educated young adults ready to compete in an ever-competitive workforce.

Carrell, a lifelong Tacoma-area resident, lives in Lakewood with his wife Charlotte.
