January 12, 2005

OLYMPIA…State Senator Don Benton, R-Vancouver, was sworn in this week to his third consecutive term as state senator.

“It continues to be an honor to represent the people of the 17th Legislative District,” Benton said.  “I take the job very seriously and am honored to once again be entrusted with their voice in Olympia.”

Benton, who also served a term in the state House of Representatives before his election to the Senate in 1996, will serve as ranking Republican on the Financial Institutions, Housing and Consumer Protection Committee.  He will also serve on the Government Operations and Elections Committee.

“My priorities continue to be the constituency I represent, and the committees on which I serve are a great match for that representation,” Benton added.  “Among other things, I will continue my efforts to protect the residents of Washington from financial fraud and identity theft, and protect our schoolchildren from the handful of school employees who violate our trust.”

Benton lives in Vancouver with his wife Mary and family.
