Washington state government’s shaky financial condition makes each session more challenging than the last in my 16 years as a citizen lawmaker. We’ve had some promising movement towards a more stable future but the truth is Washington’s economy is still struggling to recover because there isn’t enough revenue coming in to uphold the state’s spending commitments. 

There will be many difficult budget decisions to make in upcoming sessions. At the same time, the budget situation should not overshadow our state’s single largest need: jobs. I’ve said it before, and it is well worth repeating: There is much the Legislature can and should do to encourage job growth, because jobs are not only good for families, they’re the best remedy for our state’s budget trouble.

I always enjoy communicating with my constituents about the issues that are important to you, so please don't hesitate to call, write or e-mail me using the contact information below. Every piece of mail that arrives at my office is read, but to control costs in these difficult fiscal times, I am no longer responding to form letters. However, I am happy to reply to your personal letters.
